One of the most successful bands of the 1990s, Blur last played together in the year 2000 and split up in 2003 after recording their last LP Think Tank.

“It just felt it was right again,” said lead singer Damon Albarn. “It somehow feels like there’s something for us to do again, we’re not completely useless or pointless, we’ve got a reason to exist.”

The band had hinted in recent weeks that they might make a comeback and there is continued speculation that they will turn up on stage at next year’s Glastonbury festival.

Tickets for the 3 July Hype Park concert go on sale this Friday, the 12th, at a cost of £45.
