Star Wreck is a feature-length sci-fi parody, seven years in the making. It is the product of a core group of five Finn fans, and over 300 extras, assistants and supporters. The film combines world-class visual effects, a laugh-out-loud sense of humour, and a passion that provide the basis for the first-ever Finnish science fiction adventure.
This is not your run-of-the-mill parody aimed solely at Star Trek fans. It is a motion picture for everyone with a taste for action, comedy and zany characters. It is the story of Captain James B. Pirk of the Starship C.P.P. Kickstart and his crew, Commander Dwarf and Commander Info, who find themselves stranded on 21st Century Earth after a previous adventure to save the planet from hostile aliens. But as the prospects for humanity’s conquest of space look increasingly bleaker, Pirk comes up with a questionable plan to save mankind’s future. The story that unfolds amidst the space battles is a stark reminder of how dangerous the mixture of ambition, cowardice and stupidity is.
Created by an ingenious band of five students and various people from Tampere, with access to a bit of blue linoleum and a few home computers, the result is a terrific sci-fi comedy that will have fans and non-fans gripped throughout. As a result of the final spectacular visual effects, the team behind the film are currently working on the big-budget production, Iron Sky, due to shoot in Germany later this year.
Star Wreck is now finally presented for the first time on DVD through Revolver Entertainment’s Imperial Edition, with tons of new and unseen extras including audio commentary, featurettes, deleted, alternative and extended scenes.
