SATC stylist Patricia Field collaborated with the retailer for a special collection, which launched on 16 October. The timing of the sales spike seems perfect for the department store, which just this week reported a first-half profit dip of 34 percent.

M&S is said to be considering a 20 percent drop in advert costs for the next year and reviewing the use of big-name models including Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor.

Industry insiders revealed to Drapers that the company is considering other collaborations for next year but that the Pat Field project was a one-off. Her collection wasn’t advertised, but picked up significant media buzz.

An M&S spokeswoman told Drapers that some Pat Field items were saved for last week’s Westfield centre opening, but that the selection is all gone. Some of the most popular items overall have been a black corsage dress (£85) and a black mac (£75).
