Zara – the granddaughter of the Queen Elizabeth – explained the couple love “chilling out” at home, but complained England player Mike constantly disrupts her TV viewing by playing computer games.

She said: “We both normally stay at home in the evening during the week. We watch TV and just chill out.

“I like CSI and Spooks – and I love Strictly Come Dancing. But Mike loves playing computer games which can be annoying when you’re watching TV!”

Zara also revealed she is a keen cook and likes to send Mike – who plays for Gloucestershire rugby team – off to training on a full stomach.

She told British Airways’ Business Life in-flight magazine: “I’m not a bad cook. I look through recipe books for new ideas and before a game Mike likes me to cook lasagna for him.”

The 26-year-old equestrian world champion – who was named 2006 BBC Sports Personality of the Year – also insists she is much happier being famous now she is known for achieving something and not just being a royal.

She added, in a remark that might be taken as criticism of the hereditary principle: “I’m definitely happier with being in the public eye now I’ve achieved something, rather than just for being born. It’s nicer to be known for being successful.”
