The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards’ band – made up of 26 bagpipers and drummers – have recorded a cover of Sir Paul McCartney’s Mull of Kintyre and sent the queen, their Colonel-in-Chief, a copy for royal approval.

The queen was so impressed she has instructed her aides to play the band’s new single in her royal Bentley to keep her entertained on the long car journeys.

A source said: “The Queen loves to relax to the band’s music, especially when she is being driven to her royal engagements.

“She is really looking forward to the release of their whole album next month, it’s sure to be right at the top of her Christmas list!”

The military band have not had a hit since 1972 when they topped the UK charts with Amazing Grace.

However, they recently landed a UKP1 million record deal with music label Universal and their version of Mull of Kintyre has now been tipped to be a Christmas hit.

Their album Spirit of The Glen will be released later this month.
