The monarch and her husband Prince Phillip will join thousands of visitors at the final day of the event, which is in its 150th year, and it will be her fourth visit to the show.

She last attended during her silver jubilee in 1977. Her first visit was as Princess Elizabeth in 1949, and then again in 1957.

Honorary show director Bill Cowling said: “We are delighted that the queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are visiting the Great Yorkshire Show, particularly during this, our 150th show.

“It is a great honour to welcome royal visitors to the showground and we look forward to the queen seeing how the show has developed since her last trip to Harrogate.”

The last royal visit to the show – which is the largest held in the north of England – was by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, in 2006.

Charles is the patron of the event, having taken over the role from his mother, the queen, in 1998.
