The 26-year-old prince and his friends spent three hours enjoying the UKP1 Party Night at Newquay’s Barracuda club but luckily avoided the fight after leaving the venue at around 1am on Saturday morning (09.02.08).

A spokesman for the club said: “It seemed to be a fairly normal night out for the prince and his friends, they had a few drinks and left at about 1.10am.”

The nasty scrap, which left 19-year-old Dan O’Callaghan almost blind, erupted just an hour and a half later on the dancefloor at around 2.30am following an earlier tussle between three men.

Dan told the Daily Mirror: “I turned around and one of them broke the bottle on me and repeatedly pushed it in my face. It felt like warm water pouring over my head. It was blood coming down. Then everything went blurred. I could have been blinded. I’ve got a cut from my eye down to my mouth, a deep cut on my right hand and another on my left wrist.

“My eye has internal bleeding and my face will be permanently scarred from this incident.”

Dan was taken to the nearby Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske where he was given 25 stitches.

Three men aged between 18 and 19 were arrested but later freed on bail. A police spokesperson said: “It was a very nasty assault. But we can categorically say neither the prince nor his party were involved with the incident.”
