The prince – accompanied by his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall – attended the 20th annual Music In Country Churches event at the 15th century Church of St Peter and St Paul in Salle, Norfolk.

When the annual music event was first launched in 1988, Charles attended the service at the same church.

Church warden Roger Fry said: “We were delighted to have Prince Charles at our church. I remember when he first came here 20 years ago. It was an absolutely glorious summer’s evening, just like the one we had this time.”

The service was dedicated to Prince Charles to celebrate his 60th birthday this November.

The English Chamber Orchestra – of while the prince is a patron – performed A Minor for Piano and Orchestra, which is one of his favourite pieces of music.

His own harpist, Claire Jones, performed Mozart’s Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra.

More than 600 guests – including music director for Music In Country Churches Alan Wilkinson – attended the event.
