The Harrods boss believes Diana’s ex-husband Prince Charles and her former father-in-law Prince Philip were behind a plot to kill her as she was pregnant with his son Dodi’s baby and the couple were about to announce their engagement.

Al Fayed – who was joined on his yacht by Diana just weeks before she and Dodi died in a Paris car crash in August 1997 – told the jury at London’s High Court: “Princess Diana told me that she knew Prince Philip and Prince Charles were trying to get rid of her.

“She told me personally before and during the holiday we shared in July 1997 of her fears.”

He had started his evidence by stating that he would “make no allegations” and that he would simply declare his beliefs about how the couple died.

He feels the British establishment could not accept an Egyptian Muslim as a stepfather to Diana’s eldest son Prince William, the future King of England.

Al Fayed also claims driver Henri Paul – who was killed in the crash – was not drink-driving as suggested by blood tests but that he was distracted by a blinding flash of light, possibly from a stun gun.

He told the court how he thought Paul was in on the murder plot and had received money.

He said: “When he was killed, they find 20,000 francs in his pocket, because he disappeared three hours before the murder being briefed on what to do.”

Giving evidence, Mr Fayed labelled Prince Philip a “Nazi” and a “racist” and added: “It’s time to send him back to Germany from where he comes.”

“You want to know his original name – it ends with Frankenstein,” he said.

Speaking outside the Royal Courts of Justice in central London this morning, Al Fayed said: “I’ve been fighting for 10 years.

“This is the moment for me to say exactly what I feel happened to my son and Diana.”
