Taking place in Greenwich Park from 18-20 September, Pub in the Park is an exciting new three-day event, which celebrates an essential and unique part of our culture – The Great British Pub.
Pub in the Park will feature:
– Music – The best of British music from some of the nation’s favourite bands, will fill Greenwich Park as artists take to the Main Stage to remind the public that even the biggest names in music began their careers in the ‘humble’ pub. With artists ranging from sing-along favourites, The Bootleg Beatles, to a spectacular of 80’s chart-toppers, to X factor and Britain’s Got Talent finalists, the Main Stage will bring the festival scene to South London. The Main Stage will also play host to the finals of the Pub in the Park Battle of The Bands Sponsored by Tuborg, with the six regional finalists singing alongside some of the biggest names in music. Pub in the Park is about a lot more than just the main stage, visitors can head to the Budweiser Budvar Jazz Stand for music from some of the finest jazz musicians, all fresh from the world renowned Cheltenham Jazz Festival. While a special stage dedicated to the latest antipodean bands can be found in the TNT Arena and DJ sets can be enjoyed in the metropolitan Bar Scene area. Those wishing to stretch their own vocal chords can have a go at Karaoke, a time-honoured pub tradition.
– Comedy & Theatre – Big-name comedians from the pub-circuit, some even fresh from Edinburgh and major stadium tours, will perform their latest stand-up acts on the Comedy Stage while the Fringe Theatre will bring a spot of culture to the surroundings, with involvement from some of the leading lights from this year’s Edinburgh festival
– Food & Drink – For gastro-pub fans to wine connoisseurs, Pub in the Park will serve up a menu of food and drink to satisfy every pallet. The Farmer’s Market will bring you the finest in locally sourced British food including waffles and ices creams. Connoisseurs can enjoy expert Wine Tasting sessions from some of the most knowledgeable names in the industry – learn everything from the grape origin to food and wine pairing suggestions. While the Barscene will bring you the latest flavours from some of London’s leading mixologists to serve the A-list crowd in hang outs such as Mahiki.
– Pub Sports – Witness the finals of some of the most intense in-pub competitions. In the months leading up to Pub in the Park, the crème de la crème of pub talent have been testing each other’s wares in a series of competitions and regional heats taking place in pubs across the company. The finals of each of these competitions will take place at Pub in the Park, after which the winners will be crowned national pub champions. The competitions include; Killer Darts in association with John Smith’s; Killer Pool sponsored by Foster’s Game On and Texas Hold’em Poker, also sponsored by Foster’s Game On. The ultimate in pub football will see footballing legends take to the football pitch for a game of 5-a-side – could this be the best pub football team in the world? Watch star keepy uppy players or have a go yourself.
– Family & Entertainment – Families can treat themselves to traditional pub life by lazing around in the Village Green enjoying the more unusual side of Olde English pub life – tug of wars and welly throwing! See Morris dancers to street dancers. Catering for all the family, kids can get active in the Kids Play Area or head to the Children’s Theatre for performances from story tellers, top magicians to puppet shows. . Challenge each other in a range of pub games in the Games Zone, from pub skittles through to pub quizzes, darts and petanque. Experts from the English Shuffleboard Association, Charlton Chess Club and the Marble Championship Association will be on hand to give expert advice.
– Pubs & Beer – And of course, weaved into this eclectic mix of Pub culture, Pub in the Park will be; offering visitors the opportunity to sample the latest pub food and drinks in a host of pavilions, stands, marquees, all themed to emulate a wide range of pub styles.
