The big story was political, as demonstrators protesting China’s policy in Tibet were the most vocal attendees of the London leg of 2008’s Torch Relay. But the capital had a welcoming presence, too, with a carnival atmosphere across the city featuring costumed dancers and choirs and general fanfare.
