LONDON is to get two new cycle superhighways in July to add to the two launched last year; the CS8 will run from Wandsworth to Westminster and the CS2 from Bow to Aldgate.

“By the end of this summer we will have four direct cycle routes into the centre of the capital,” said Kulveer Ranger, transport advisor to Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
The four superhighways are just the start: by 2015, the plan is for there to be 12 of the distinctive blue lanes radiating from outer to inner London.
“But these are more than just cycle lanes,” added Ranger.
“There is also increased cycle parking and more training, and we are working with businesses along the routes to ensure everyone who wants to can take to the cleanest, greenest form of commuter transport.”
Take up on the existing cycle superhighways – the CS7 from Merton to The City and CS3 from Barking to Tower Gateway – has been strong, says Transport for London, but others have pointed out that the scheme amounts to a travel subsidy for rich, white men, at a time when the Tube and bus routes face cutbacks.
