Robert Redford has thrown into doubt the future of the Sundance London Film Festival on the first day of this year’s event, telling reporters that “it is hard to declare a length of commitment”.

Describing last year’s Sundance London, the first, as “a toe-in-the-water experiment”, the legendary actor and founder of Sundance said he would “let [the festival] play out and see how it goes”.
Redford also revealed that he plans to relinquish control of the main Sundance festival, held in Utah, after 35 years in charge.
Among the highlights of this year’s Sundance London, held at the O2, are The Look of Love, the Paul Raymond biopic starring Steve Coogan, though most of the films on offer come from the American independent scene.
“Our philosophy is to give a representation of not just the programme we did in Sundance Utah, but also a representation of what is happening in the independent film scene in America,” said Sundance Festival director John Cooper.
Sundance London runs from today, 25 April, until Sunday, 28 April.
