LONDON is to get a titanic theme park on its doorstep to rival Disneyland Paris, with the arrival in 2018 of the £2 billion Paramount Park on a 272 acre site near Ebbsfleet.

Expected to go heavy on major Paramount titles such as Titanic, the Star Trek and Indiana Jones film series and Sponge Bob Square Pants, the amusement park is also to feature hotels and music venues.

Other films likely to have attractions named in their honour include Tomb Raider (pictured) and the Italian Job, as these were two of the main features of the north American Paramount Parks – since sold – and are rumoured to be among the rides at similar ventures planned for South Korea and the Murcia area of Spain.

“We haven’t seen anything like this in the UK before,” said Tony Sefton, project manager for London Resort Company Holdings, a firm set up to build the park.

“We are planning to get the project open by 2018, that is the challenge, and we are three years into the journey.”

To get some idea of what the Paramount Park might be like, here’s a video about Paramount Murcia.

Assuming it passes the planning stage, Paramount’s venture will dwarf London’s other film studio attraction, the Warner Bros. Harry Potter tour.
