City Airport in Huge Flight Increase

LONDON City Airport is to increase its flight numbers by 50 per cent after permission was granted by local authority Newham Council.

A welcome shot in the arm in times of economic distress or environmental idiocy depending on your point of view, the upgrade will allow the Docklands airport to clear nearly four million passengers a year by 2010. That equates to 120,000 flights annually, up from the present 80,000.

Cannily, City Airport’s spokesperson stressed the social benefits of the expansion in traffic over the likely increase in profits, commending, “its contribution to the local economy and the increased number of jobs that will become available to local residents as a result of its growth.”
