BORIS JOHNSON has handed in his notice as chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority, blaming lack of time to give to the job.

The Mayor’s deputy and close ally, Kit Malthouse, is to take over the role. He has been Vice Chairman since October last year.
Johnson ruffled feathers at the Met when he took on the police overseer job back in 2008. The first Tory London Mayor forced out one Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, and drew fire from the next, current chief Sir Paul Stephenson, for political interference.
However, Johnson was keen to play down suspicions that those spats had anything to with today’s decision.
“I can reassure you and reassure members of the MPA that my links with the Commissioner are as strong and as robust as ever,” he said.
