The troubled singer – who looked stunning in a pink and black strapless knee-length dress – walked away with the prestigious prize at the ceremony and also took to the stage to perform new single Tears Dry On Their Own.

However, Amy, 24, forgot the words to her track, but redeemed herself with a spellbinding rendition of Me and Mr. Jones, taken from her hit album Back to Black.

She showed signs of her recent troubles when she was handed the accolade by singer Estelle, the London-born performer only managed to mumble “Thank you”, before shoving the microphone back into Estelle’s hands and stumbling off stage.

Fans were still impressed by the star’s performance, whooping and cheering after she finished her two tracks.

Amy – who also won Best Live Female at the Vodafone Live Music Awards on the same night – reportedly demanded an ocean of alcohol for her candlelit dressing room, including 48 bottles of Heineken lager, a large bottle of vodka, two bottles of “essential” Jack Daniels bourbon, and two bottles of expensive Veuve Clicquot champagne.

Fans at the ceremony showed their disapproval of rapper 50 Cent’s no show and booed when his name was announced as a nominee for the Best Hip-Hop award.

The annual ceremony celebrates music of black origin and was held at the O2 arena.
