Great Christmas Pudding Race (6 December 2008, 11.30am, Covent Garden Market): Teams racing around a course – carrying a Christmas pudding, naturally – will raise money for Cancer Research UK. It’s not like puddings would come in better use if people actually ate them.
Covent Garden Christmas Lighting (17 November 2008, Covent Garden): Full-colour LED lights and three chandeliers will give this popular London spot an interactive holiday vibe. The group that organised the installation has done shows for U2 and Massive Attack.
Marylebone High Street Christmas Lighting (19 November 2008, 6pm, Marylebone High Street): What better way to celebrate the season than with a Sicilian sausage sandwich and a glass of champers? Street performers and old-fashioned carols don’t hurt, either.
Bond Street Christmas Lighting (20 November 2008, 6pm, Bond Street): Kelly Brook will do the honours of brightening up one of London’s favourite (and most famous) shopping streets. Greet Father Christmas and real reindeer on the scene.
Santas on the Run (29 November 2008, 9.30am, Kensington Gardens): Hundreds of fat bearded men will race to raise money for Children’s Hospices UK, which helps ill children and their families around the country. Staff will provide a hat and beard, if you wish.
Natural History Museum Christmas Fair (until 18 January 2009, 10am to 10pm, Natural History Museum): This is the third year of celebration for the museum, where Elle Macpherson has gone skating on the outdoor ice rink. Browse 38 stalls of gifts and goodies.
Trafalgar Square Christmas Carols (8 to 20 December 2008, times vary, Trafalgar Square): Christmas choirs can take hour-long slots at the square, which will have a fantastic tree on display. More than 50 groups performed last year.
