Farringdon, The City
Luxury
Rooms: 33
Beautifully restored and perfectly poised for the City of London, also within walking distance of the West End. A genteel and welcome entry to the elite band of hotels serving the City. A haven of calm in the heart of Europe’s busiest financial centre
Quietly located a short distance from St Paul’s and the Bank of England, the only remaining early houses in Peter’s Lane have been repaired to create this delightful small hotel.
Open fires, mellow panelling and period furniture give The Rookery its unique, homely atmosphere. Even the bathroom fittings are genuine antiques, lovingly restored. All the rooms are now air conditioned and free broadband laptop connectivity.
Here at the Rookery, you can see the ambience of Georgian London as you push open the hand carved front door. Guests are looked after by helpful, intelligent staff. The rooms have space to work or relax. Communications are state of the art. Their croissants are baked fresh on the premises each morning. (But sadly not on the period kitchen range which still exists below stairs.)
Meetings can be catered for in the Library, and drinks and light refreshments taken in the Conservatory, overlooking the tiny garden. Or eat in one of Smithfield’s many restaurants, several of them almost on the hotel’s doorstep.
