Introduction

All this oh-so-trendy hotel décor minimalism getting you down? Then make straight for the Milestone, a triumphantly, sumptuously, extravagantly luxurious establishment of the most maximilist order. Dutch revival architecture houses a hotel that has recently been subject to a UKP5 million refurbishment; one that features individually designed rooms and suites, culinary excellence and a location in one of the most exclusive areas of London.

Location

Just around the corner from Kensington Gardens, a lovely green space that flanks Hyde Park. A short walk away are some of London’s best museums such as the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Shoppers flock to Kensington High Street for its mix of chain and designer stores while Harrods and other Knightsbridge outlets are also a short walk away.

High Street Kensington underground station is close by, providing access to the rest of London’s attractions, or you can just opt for the ultra-luxurious alternative and rent out the Milestone’s Bentley.

Bedrooms

All rooms and suites share breathtaking levels of opulent décor and facilities but also evince a quite dazzling variety, from the Tudor Suite with its four-poster and minstrel gallery, to the Safari Suite featuring opulent ceiling drapes and the English Rose Room which favours English roses as its elegant design motif. Standards of service are tip top; for instance the evening turn-down includes a hotwater bottle and booklights while suites have dedicated butlers. One extra worth a thought is the Milestone Midnight Feast, a devilish affair that includes salmon, caviar and wine.

Restaurants

Cheneston’s restaurant dishes up some great examples of traditional cuisine; lighter, though no less well-crafted meals, are the staple of the bright Conservatory, while the Park Lounge is the venue for that English speciality, the afternoon tea. Meanwhile, the club-style Stables Bar is the place to head for a drink.

Business Facilities

Conference rooms and suites are equipped to the most modern of modern standards and, better still, exude a rare degree of class, especially the wood-panelled Map Room and Windsor suite. The Milestone also rents out laptops and provides fax machines, photocopiers and scanners. In addition, bedrooms are laced with modem points, two phone lines and DVD/CD players.
