Introduction

One of London’s most popular privately run hotels, The Gore first opened its doors in 1892 as an annexe to the neighbouring Queen’s Gate Mansions Hotel. The two establishments were linked by a tunnel under Bremner Road. When the other end became the Bulgarian Embassy, these arrangements were hastily revised. The Gore offers old fashioned comfort with up-to-date facilities and is justly famous for its mellow surroundings and intelligent, friendly staff.

Location

The Gore is to be found in a tree-lined avenue between Harrods and Kensington Palace. Dominating this part of London are Kensington Gardens and the adjoining Hyde Park, nearly 400 unspoilt acres ideal for jogging, riding, boating, tennis and swimming. An encounter with Peter Pan cannot be guaranteed, but children still sail their model yachts on the Round Pond, exactly as they did in J.M.Barrie’s day.

Bedrooms

Victorians felt at home in these surroundings, rich in mahogany and walnut, with walls covered in antique pictures and stained-glass windows, floors in Oriental rugs. The Tudor Room even features a gallery and a fireplace.
