It might be the next big trend to have rappers headline summer music festivals. Just a month after Jay-Z took over Glastonbury, Chicago boy Kanye West is set to meet the masses (and we mean masses) at Stratford upon Avon’s Global Gathering.
The world’s biggest electro festival is preparing for tens of thousands of fans, including about 2,000 jetsetters, to funnel in for a campout weekend at Long Marston Airfield. Along with Mr West, the jam-packed line up includes world-famous DJ Tiesto, Moby, Mark Ronson, Sam Sparro and Robyn. And those are just some of the biggest names.
The Global Gathering site takes 3,000 workers about two weeks to build and has a campsite the size of 40 football pitches. There’ll be plenty of room for dancing, or for the weak, sleeping. Nine stages will pulse beats for a total of 25 hours, with the final acts winding down after dawn on Sunday morning. Monday might have to be a sleepy day, but isn’t it worth it to Put Your Hands Up for Detroit with Fedde Le Grande?
