Spoof music biopic charting the rise and fall of a fictional singer-songwriter against a backdrop of nearly 50 years of American history. Dewey Cox escapes from Springberry, Alabama, and nightmarish childhood memories of a freak machete accident, with his girlfriend Edith in tow. He secures a recording contract and a backing band, and wrestles with an intense attraction to backing singer Darlene Madison.
