Moshe Bellanga and his wife Malli are Hassidic Jews, tormented by their lack of money and by Malli’s inability to conceive the child the couple so desperately wants. Fate finally seems to smile on the Bellangas when a yeshiva kindly donates $1,000 to help them celebrate the seven-day religious festival of Sukkot. Soon after, Moshe’s friend Eliyahu turns up on their doorstep with his associate Yossef. The Bellangas gladly take in both men for the holiday, unaware that the new arrivals have recently escaped from prison.
