Vernon conceives a deadly scheme called “trading” to raise money and dispel the gloom. Two strangers will connect anonymously online, meet at a random location and spar to the death to lay claim to each other’s life savings. To test out his idea, Vernon persuades former coworker Harry to fight him, staking their personal fortunes on the outcome. Harry emerges victorious and participates in several more fights, doubling his money with each hard-fought win.
