George Mallory and his climbing partner Andrew Irvine disappeared in 1924 during an ascent of Everest and were never seen again. Debate rages about whether they were the first climbers to reach the summit. Several decades later, Japanese reporter Makoto Fukamachi becomes convinced that enigmatic mountaineer Habu Joji is in possession of the camera that Mallory took to the summit. Fukamachi tracks down Joji and attempts to get close to the climber to learn the truth.
