The Piano (15)

Mute Scotswoman Ada McGrath arrives in Victorian-era New Zealand with her young daughter Flora and her beloved piano. Ada has been sold to Alistair Stewart by her father but the master of the house has no need for the instrument and Stewart sells the piano to one of his employees, George Baines. Ada is distraught to lose an instrument that represents her voice and Baines is moved by her plight. He agrees to return the piano to Ada – one key at a time – if she will become his music tutor.
