In the distant future, mankind is an endangered species on Earth. Parasitic aliens called Souls have overrun the planet, inhabiting the bodies of humans. Melanie Stryder is chased by a pack of Souls and is captured. A parasite called Wanderer takes over Melanie's body and is bombarded with the girl's memories. Cast out into the wilderness, Wanderer is eventually discovered by Melanie's uncle Jeb, who takes the unpopular decision to invite his possessed niece into the human stronghold.
