After one brush too many with police authorities in America, speed freak Sean Boswell is sent to Japan to spend some time with his estranged father. In the land of the rising sun, Sean is an outsider, until an American pal named Twinkie introduces him to the dangerous, big thrills sport of drift racing, which involves sliding around corners at dizzying speed. One bad race sees Sean in hoc to local kingpin Han, who asks him to work off his debt. Meanwhile, the young American develops a crush on Neela, the girlfriend of reigning drift racing champion D.K..
