The Imperial Japanese Army makes morale boosting gains in Beijing and Shanghai, forcing the Chinese army into retreat. In response, Chinese high command orders Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jinyuan to defend the Sihang Warehouse with a regiment of just 452 soldiers. The warehouse's location, across from the Suzhou Creek, was in full view of the Allies. Against overwhelming odds and around 20,000 Japanese troops, Jinyuan and his men hold their position.
