In 2001 in northern Nepal, a fragile ceasefire between the army and left-wing rebels gives the people hope of lasting peace. Prakash and his best friend Kiran are delighted when Prakash's sister Bijuli gives them a hen. The boys plan to sell the bird's precious eggs. However, the hen goes missing and the youngsters embark on a perilous journey to reclaim the fowl, leading Prakash and Kiran into the blackened heart of the country's bitter civil war.
