Josue is a hit man for one of the drug cartels, whose complicity in murder ends in a hail of bullets. He leaves behind a four-year-old son, Sujo, who is marked for death by virtue of his lineage. The boy's two aunts, Nemesia and Rosalia, strike a deal with the cartel leader to raise the child in the rural village of Michoacan on the explicit understanding that Sujo will never trouble the cartel again. As Sujo blossoms into a young man, he falls into the same life of crime as his late father.
