Thirtysomething paramedic Rike sails from Gibraltar to Ascension Island on her yacht, the Asa Gray. During the crossing, she faces a thunderous storm and when the elements calm, Rike is greeted with the sight of a fishing trawler overloaded with dozens of refugees. As maritime law dictates, Rike reports her find by radio to the coastguard, who assures the doctor that a rescue boat will be dispatched. Hours pass and no help arrives, putting Rike in an impossible position.
