Archaeologist and lecturer Richard and wife Juliette live in 1970s rural Yorkshire with their young son Owen. It's a simple and seemingly idyllic existence until death comes knocking at the family's door. Richard seeks refuge in local folklore, notably one myth about an ancient oak tree with magical powers that once stood on his property. Juliette salves her grief in the company of her sister Harry but dark and sinister forces are unwittingly invited into her home.
