Thomas Guthrie directs a revival of David McVicar's acclaimed staging of Umberto Giordano's passionate drama of liberty and love during the French Revolution, based loosely on the life of the eponymous French poet. Jonas Kaufmann sings the title role under the baton of conductor Antonio Pappano, broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in London.
