Drama based on a landmark legal case, revolving around battered Punjabi housewife Kiranjit, who grows tired of constant beatings and abuse at the hands of her alcoholic husband. Determined to save herself and her two children from the cycle of violence, Kiranjit kills her husband and sets him alight, and she is subsequently found guilty of first-degree murder. When Kiranjit’s wealthy cellmate learns about the case, she introduces Kiranjit to her brother, a respected lawyer who agrees to file her appeal.
