Mary Goodwin is a hit woman for hire for a Boston crime family headed by Benny. She accepts each job without hesitation until the murder of a nameless gambler orphans a boy called Danny. Mary is consumed with guilt for wrecking the lad’s future and she observes him from afar, vowing to keep him safe in a world that abuses the weak and innocent. She takes Danny under her wing and pays a visit to his boss, a vicious drug dealer called Uncle, which predictably ends with a dead body.
