In 1973 Chile, socialist president Salvador Allende is facing a military coup masterminded by army general Augusto Pinochet. As the fate of the country teeters on a knife-edge, mortician’s assistant Mario develops an all-consuming obsession with his neighbour, Nancy, a cabaret bar dancer suffering from anorexia and alcoholism, whose skeletal body is no longer attractive to the customers.
