Overweight 13-year-old Melanie is packed off to fat camp for the summer by her mother in the hope the truculent teenager can shed a few pounds. From the moment Melanie arrives, it’s evident that she has no interest in getting fit. However, she does show an interest in the camp’s forty-something doctor, developing a crush on the older man, who is initially flattered by the attention but attempts to maintain professional distance from his clearly smitten patient.
