The year is 1985 and times are tough. Margaret Thatcher is in power, unrest is sweeping the country and print workers go on strike under the aegis of inspirational union leader Percy “Smudge” Smith. Faced with redundancy, the group meets as usual for a Sunday morning drink in a local pub where a stranger approaches the workers and offers them a tantalising deal: to use their redundancy pay to buy a racehorse.
