Paul is an American composer, who has invested countless hours in completing an unfinished symphony by largely unknown Alexander Grondahl. This creative endeavour is interrupted by the death of Paul's estranged. He travels to the remote Mexican village of Real de Catorce to settle his old man's affairs. In his father's belongings, Paul finds a photograph of a woman and he resolves to track down this mystery acquaintance, Marianne.
