King Asmund, benevolent ruler of the Viking kingdom of Volsung, and his wife Queen Alva welcome a daughter Helle into the world. Asmund’s scheming brother Bard convinces his sibling that a female heir would weaken the kingdom so she is swapped at birth for a more suitable successor. Helle grows into a strong, brave and kind woman and Asmund realises he made a grave error denying his daughter her birth right.
