Renfield asks his employee, estate agent Jonathan Harker, to visit a nobleman named Count Dracula who intends to buy a large property in Wismar. Harker dutifully travels to Transylvania with the deeds in his possession. En route, villagers try to warn Harker about the Count but the estate agent dismisses their dire warnings in order to complete the deal. When the Count glimpses a portrait of Harker’s young wife, Lucy, he signs the deeds and begins the move to Wismar.
