Henry McAllan transplants his wife Laura, their two children and his grandfather from Memphis to the Mississippi Delta to pursue grand dreams of farming the land. Part of the property is leased to Hap Jackson and his wife Florence, whose family has shed blood, sweat and tears into the sun-baked soil.
