Navy SEALs Marcus Luttrell, Michael Murphy, Danny Dietz and Matt Axelson are stationed at Bagram Air Base in 2005. Lieutenant Commander Erik Kristensen gives the green light to a mission to hunt Ahmad Shah, a high-ranking member of the Taliban, who is suspected of killing marines in Afghanistan. The reconnaissance is fatally compromised and the SEALs are surrounded by hundreds of gun-toting Taliban in mountains near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border with no obvious means of escape.
