Disillusioned music teacher JJ is called to a police station in Belfast to act as translator for a suspect, Liam, who insists that he only speaks Irish. During the interview, JJ conceals Liam's notebook and inside the teacher finds song lyrics, also written in Irish. JJ avoids charges and Liam approaches the young man and pal Naoise with a proposal to form a hip hop group that celebrates the Irish language. Liam and Naoise christen their outfit Kneecap.
