Police are called to probe the death of supernatural investigator Elise, forcing Josh Lambert, his wife Renai and their two boys to move in with his mother, Lorraine. The family prays the nightmarish ordeal is over. Josh begins to behave erratically, which sets poor Renai on edge, and her nerves are shredded when she is attacked by a ghostly figure in the living room. Weird episodes increase in frequency and Lorraine approaches Elise’s old cohort Carl to connect with the dearly departed.
