Colin Briggs is serving a long sentence for murder when he is unexpectedly transferred to an open prison run by progressive governor Hodge. Spurred on by his eccentric elderly cellmate Fergus, Colin discovers a talent for gardening. Governor Hodge introduces the prisoners to floral expert Georgina Woodhouse, and together, Georgina and the inmates set about designing a garden for the annual Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
