Glyndebourne Live: Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg (U)

David McVicar directs this epic staging of Wagner’s towering opera in three acts, which was recorded live in 2011 at Glyndebourne’s resplendent opera house in East Sussex under the baton of conductor Vladimir Jurowski. The Meistersinger are a group of revered poets and musicians, who adhere to strict rules for composing and performing their songs. The cobbler Hans Sachs is the group’s most celebrated member and he is horrified when impoverished knight Walther von Stolzing enters the singing competition and defies all of the established protocols.
