Don Plutarco, his son Genaro and grandson Lucio are three generations of peasant farmers, who earn money as musicians. Like many in the region, they silently pledge their support to the armed guerrilla movement, which intends to overthrow the country’s cruel regime. When a ruthless army captain and his men occupy Don Plutarco’s village and seize control of the farm, the old man is denied access to the cache of ammunition squirrelled away in the cornfields for use by the rebellion. So the grandfather poses as a violin player and ingratiates himself to the captain, returning each day to play for the military.
